This may be the wrong section for this question, but here goes...

My 8 month old EE lays beautiful green eggs but they are sticky for up to 48 hours after she lays them. Straw or shavings in the nestboxes sticks to the eggs like they've been superglued. Some days the eggs are stickier than others, every few days she will lay a perfect egg without the sticky coating. The shells are normal strength and they have free choice at the oyster shells, so I don't think it is a calcium deficiency. Plus the other hens' eggs are perfectly normal, so it shouldn't be diet or nutrition related. I am clueless.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Our geese had a similar problem, and it turned out to be calcium deficiency. Is she being bullied away from the oyster shells by the others, therefore not getting the benefit of them?

Quote:She IS the bully...even the roosters are afraid of her.
Maybe I need to mix the oyster shells into the feed...she may not be consuming enough on her own. I will give that a try and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks!
