Straddle leg & heat

When you put on the plaster to help with the straddle leg issue (on a 1-2 day old chick), how do you then also make sure that it doesn't get too hot or too cold when you move it into the brooder? The chick we have in the brooder just now, who is thankfully doing fine, moves from under the bulb to the other end of the brooder ALL the time. But obviously with the straddle leg one, he won't be able to really move much to regulate his temperature. So not really sure what to do about that or where exactly would be best to place him within the brooder!

Put him somewhere not too hot, you'll have to judge by holding your hand in the brooder. By the sounds of it, your lamp may be a bit hot. Can you lift it a little?
