strage anomaly inside egg (see pic)

My daughter broke this egg on the floor and the strangest (grossest) thing was inside. Please help, I have searched many site, forums, and books and cannot find a pic like this. Do any of you hen keepers know what this is?

How rare is that?

That's just the membrane of the egg. Backyard chickens often have thicker membranes than store bought eggs.

Of course! An additional egg membrane! Thanks you guys are making me feel so much better. I was worried ti was some freaky parasite, though it seemed to large for that. I know an egg yolk and shell can form around just about anything that get's in the oviduct, didn't think of an extra membrane. I'd still love to hear other thoughts in case an experienced hen keeper things it's something more serious.

Agreed, it's an extra membrane that got included in the "egg of the day".
