One of my 7 week old babies (silver penciled cochin) has a strange bump on the back of her neck. It started out a little over a week ago as just a tiny real red spot and now has grown to about the size of a nickel and is raised and fairly hard.
She is eating and active. No other problems as of yet.
Has anyone seen anything like this?
And suggestions as to what to do?
    Thanks in advance

So you have mosquitoes there? Can you tell if it is a bite?

No mosquitoes around here. At first it looked like a bite. Maybe an ant but now it looks huge. The skin is very pink. should I be treating it as a bite and if so, how?

I hope someone reads this and offers some suggestions.
This bump seems to be getting bigger. Could it be some kind of tumor.
She is fine. Running and eating and doing all the stuff she is supposed to do but no feathers are coming in on the bump.
Like I said it seems to be getting bigger. Is there something I can treat this with?
    Please, some suggestions are needed.
    Thanks
    Jacie

Oh thank you for answering. Yes I've been putting antibiotic cream on it each morning. Maybe it is coming to a head.

Thanks again for replying. I was feeling a little lost out here! LOL!

Try holding a warm rag over it to, it might help speed things up.

If it's a boil or something similar, drawing salve would help bring it to a head...I've seen drawing salve in the horse dept at PetSmart, but I don't remember the name of it...

Ichthammol Ointment is a drawing ointment.
You can buy it at the pharmacy.
It is black & greasy & tar like. I have used it on animals & me.

It could also be an ingrown feather. I have heard about that on this site before. I do not remember what to do for it, maybe someone else will post with more info.
