Hello BYC
Long time reader first time posting....Ive gotten alot from the forum over the years!
Here's the situation:
An orphan chick landed in my lap yesterday. We decided to take it in.....all seems well.
This morning we noticed a small swelling near its neck. This evening the swelling has now grown to about the size of a 5c piece (aus) or maybe 1cm diameter. The chick seems unphased and is eating and behaving normally. A pic is attached.
Any ideas on what it is and what to do?
Thank you in advance ;)

Probably it's crop. They are particularly noticeable at that age when they have mostly fluff. There was another similar post a few weeks ago on this same issue. If the chick is acting normal then I would not worry. You could withhold food overnight and check to see if it goes down.

Not easy raising a lone chick. Do you have a small cuddly toy and a mirror for it or can you get it a couple of palls the same age.

Ahh! Baby chick is awake and the swelling is gone :)
I'm hoping to pick up some more chicks for company asap!
Thank you for the help!
