Just wondering if anyone might have seen this happen before and give us some advise.
One of our bantams has been laying eggs just fine but today had a problem with one. She laid a partially formed egg, it was normal size for her but was the shell was all soft and transparent and was split at one end with a sting coming off one end.
I think some yolk might have come out as one of the other eggs in the nesting box was covered in yolk.
The hen doesn't look too good today, she is standing around look unwell, with her wings hanging low.
Hopefully some one can help us out.
Thank you.
Jenny

Hi, Didn't add a light but the days have suddenly started getting longer this week.
Her eggs have been fine and laying nearly everyday for the last two weeks until today.
Don't know how long she has been laying I have only had her these last two weeks and she's been doing just fine.
Thanks. Jenny

check her vent for any drainage.

give her some plain yogurt and/or crushed Tums sprinkled in her feed for calcium..also add some water cooked oatmeal, and a cooked egg yolk.

give vitamins..if you don't have poultry vitamins on hand, you can use Polyvisol childrens' vitamins..2-3 drops in beak, once a day for a week, then taper off.

please describe droppings..color and consistency.
observe hen for signs of illness, and fever..(comb and under wings will feel hot)
also check vent/belly area for swelling or heat.

do you have any antibiotic on hand?
if so, what?

check the first pic in this link to see if this is what it looked like:
(scroll down the page to pics)
it could be shell-less egg, which would cause discomfort to lay, or just a really strange egg. or egg sack. (improper light (among other things) can be a cause of strange eggs)
