I've had a few hens that crowed, one was a smooth feathered Showgirl of all things. My husband swore she was a rooster... I said No - She lays eggs. Often very dominate hens will show some male behaviors. Now the crows were not a true rooster crow, but it sure was a crow. She stopped doing it as she got older.

Quote:nope. Actually none of mine have done this but a friend of mine SWEARS her Grandpa has a silkie hen that crows in the morning and at night but also lays eggs. I just didn't believe her so I HAD to ask the experts on BYC!

Some hens will fight roosters and try to mate the hens also, but it is more a dominance thing.....
