Hey everybody - I have had chickens for quite awhile now but this is new for me. I got two speckled Sussex chicks at 2 weeks old in early July. However one of them is now at least 4 times the size of the other one and the small one isn’t feathering out like normal. We are in NC so warmth isn’t an issue at the moment but I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this before. It acts normal in every other way and is actually quite feisty. It also doesn’t appear that it is getting picked on. Do I just let it roll? Is there anything to do? Tried to get pictures but they are not the best.

Looks stunted by a few weeks.

Lack of food can cause drastic size differences in chickens. Other things that may cause stunting is worms, lack of nutrient absorption, poor diet.

There's also Dwarfism, which results in smaller size, slower growth depending on the type of Dwarfism going on. There's a few different types. I'm not sure if this is Dwarfism, or not.

If it's stunted, s/he may catch up later, but remain a bit smaller.

I have 3 who were born June 20. One is half the size of the other two. I've had the same concern and have spent so much time watching her. She eats and drinks normally, behaves like the others, and isn't being bullied. I wish I knew why she's so tiny but since she seems perfectly healthy, I'm trying to not worry.
