My husband rescued one of my hens from heat exhaustion this week. He found her in distress - mouth open, shaking, legs wobbly, eyes in a stare. After placing her in a shady spot under the coop next to fresh cool water, he splashed her with water and set up a fan with ice water behind it to blow cool air on her. She sat facing the fan for a couple of hours. Then got up and drank and drank and drank. Two hours later she was back with the gang begging for treats.
AND - I'm the one who reads everything in trying to prepare for such emergencies. So glad he was home and tending the flock.
