How long do I give sugar water to the chicks after hatch? Is it really necessary? Is placing marbles in the water er also needed and if so for how long do I need them? I know so many questions but the hatch is creeping up on me. John

i use quick chick for the first week and a half. I dont think you need marbles unless the trough is big enough for the chicks to get in, or if you are hatching small birds like quail.

Sugar water is only given to chicks that have been shipped or a weak chick ....marbles are used the first week or so to help keep them from drowning in the waterers...

I never used marbles then about 2 weeks ago a sweet/stunning silkie chick managed to flip upside down backwards into the red water base and drown
I felt so bad I will always use marbles untill I know they are sure footed from now on. about a week old..
I do have one red quail base that I also use but some times I have a couple different brooders going
