Does anyone have a suggestion for good egg layer who is winter hardy (it's cold up here in Minnesota) that is bold enough to stand up to dogs, cats, and other things, but will be friendly enogh to small children?

I know, it's almost immpossible.

No really there is such a breed, If you google Viking Chicken you can read about them. They are just really hard to find. My DH is trying to get hatching eggs right now.

Wyndottes are a good bird to and much easyer to find.

You my dear, are asking a lot out of a chicken! Good egg layer: sex links, leghorns, rhode island reds, barred rocks.............winter hardy: chanteclers and a lot of chickens with a rose or pea comb........Bold: game chickens........Friendly: barred rocks, orpingtons, cochins,

I have Buff Orps that are super friendly and have survived this winter that will never end!!

I do not insulate nor heat my coop and they are fine. Been laying all winter too.

I ordered some Cochin's as I hear they are as good or better. I'd imagine the feathers on thier feet would help!
