Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

Thanks to this thread for the laugh today!
Although I don’t own ducks, a good part of a very expensive, week-long vacation was once spent appeasing local ducks with duck-acceptable food from the hotel buffet. As these ducks quickly managed to become the lasting highlight of an overseas trip (which included the necessity of acquiring a passport), it is clearly an instance of being taken advantage of by international ducks.
Reminds me of the time my parents visited New Zealand. The summary of their vacation is that they left my geese and ducks and ended up hanging out with someone else’s geese and ducks for a week.

Artificial grass?
Is this going to be safe though? I don't know if it's just my girls but they are constantly ripping up real grass, not like casual grazing, but a relentless life long mission to end the life of all grass and vegetation.
I feel like they could potentially pull up some plastic pieces and try and eat them. If not for that concern, it would be a perfect solution!

Do you think I'm overthinking it?

My dear, you *always* overthink things! :D <3

Take a look at what's available. Like everything, there are different levels of quality. A good quality one should *not* rip out in pieces.

Back when I had ducks and they free-ranged, there would not be a blade of grass anywhere. It was a mud field!

Exactly how long of a flight was that for them to go meet some new geese and ducks?
I think I remember seeing some geese and ducks in the Shire scenes of the Lord of the Rings movies shot in New Zealand, so, worth the trip, surely? 😆

That's fair, I guess I'm worried because I've not really had any experience with artifical grass, so I've no idea how durable it is, especially with two little dinosaurs! I'll have a look into it tomorrow and try it - if I recall correctly @New duck mommy 2021 used artifical grass once? Did that work well for you?

I have a little glass area for them by their coop but it becomes a big mucky mess after a couple of months and needs replacing. I plan to replace it two-three times per year from spring-autumn just for enrichment for them. They don't get to free range so it give them an area full of bugs to forage in. It's cheap and its a really small space so it works okay. I can only imagine the hell of putting it around their pond though :lau :sick it would not last a week.

My girls would like to know why we allowed it to be windy today.
Sprightly is deeply troubled after almost blowing away this morning!
To add insult to injury, my partner went to them to reassure them that the sky wasn't falling down, and dared to approach them! They were absolutely horrified at this. He's obviously working with the wind.

Ugh she's such a beauty. Can someone please tell me why I keep following all the duck threads? Like why am I peer pressuring myself to get ducks:gig
Im right there with you. I didnt think I did.. but now i miss my ducks.
We mostly had 2 little personalities, there was daisy who was the smallest, cutest, sweetest little girl you ever saw, and Willie. Willie lived up to his name so much we had to lock him up when the goose was setting, because he would try to mount her while she was stuck for eggs, then the male and him would get in a big fight. But he was undeterred, and woild come back later again. 🤦‍♀️
