Well, here's an upside to having a rather messy garden. Several naughty hens have been hiding their eggs in there all spring and summer. Sometimes I'd find the nest, but I hadn't lately.
Until tonight, when I went out to discover an Easter Egger hen with thirteen babies in my compost heap! I hadn't even realized that she was missing!

I put food and water out for her, and a dog crate without the door in case she wants to move them. She's being a very good mama.
