Okay so last year I bought a bunch of chicks from the farm and home store where I worked at the time. Because there wasn't many chicks, management just set up big empty water troughs to hold the chicks, but didn't use chicken wire over the top, so some of the chicks would jump back and forth between troughs. At the end of chick days, I bought the last chicks, just some assorted rainbow layers, all the fancier breeds had been bought. As they grow up I notice one hen is totally different than the rest, I loved it. All the hens are red or black, then there was Princess, uniquely black and white. I know, it's been a year and I'm just now asking about her breed. But I never really thought much about it til now. I'm pretty darn sure she must be a Silver Lace Wyandotte. That's the only thing I can think of. What do you all think?? [IMG]

Are you sure she is a hen? If it is a silver laced wyandotte it is definitely a rooster!!

I agree: she is a Silver Laced Wyandotte. However, (as if this even matters [IMG]) I think her comb type is wrong for the breed. That's just my opinion, I could very well be wrong [IMG], but if you are hoping to show her, just keep that in mind. She's a beauty though!

Murphyfarm, I'm like 99.9% sure she's a hen, lol! There's been no rooster crows since I got rid of the roosters I did have last year, and she's nestled in the nesting boxes and (I assume they are hers) laid eggs :) and flytie, I don't plan on showing, I'm just a crazy backyard chicken lady!! ;)

I'm used to seeing them like this:

I believe it's called a rose comb, but for your purposes it just makes her more unique [IMG]

Yep, she's a pretty silver laced Wyandotte hen.

that straight comb is a recessive trait that pops up from time to time. Not a thing wrong with it, or with her for a nice backyard bird. You just can't show her, it would be a disqualification for her breed.

I love the laced Wyandottes, they're total eye candy [IMG]
