Sweet PDZ mixed with sand in the brooder.

I am raising my chicks in my new hen house. The bedding in the hen house is about 2.5" of sand. I bought Sweet PDZ to mix with the sand to keep it nice and dry. I just wanted to ask if the Sweet PDZ will hurt my chicks. It seems like there would be no way to keep them from eating a grain or two if it's mixed with the sand under their feet.
