Hello! We have two chickens who have developed swollen bellies. Their eyes are a redder color than they were before, with a white film flashing over them. They also seem to have heavy breathing. It might possibly be from some mites that we have been dealing with the past few weeks... Is their any information on what this is or foods we can give them to help them through this? Thank you!

There are a number of possibilities, though I doubt mites have anything to do with it. Are they laying? Also, how old are they? Are there any other symptoms, such as runny or odd colored poop?

We still do not know what was wrong with our two hens but they passed away. Thank you for replying.

Film over eye is the nictitating membrane and swollen abdomen can be a result of egg binding, ascites, peritonitis or even ovarian cancer.

    My condolences on their passing.
