swollen leg

my chickens leg is very swollen and when she walks she lifts her legs up really high (like how cats walk when they have wet feet) but the crazy thing is, is the the main leg she walks on is the fat leg not the skinny leg but i don’t think the skinny leg is broken. has anyone experienced this or know what is happening?
 
It might be severe scaly leg mites or an injury. Tasselfoot is a bad growth that is seen in scaly leg mites. I would soak her legs in warm Epsom salts water for 20 minutes a day, gently scrubbing the swollen leg with a toothbrush, and then apply a thick oil, such as castor or mineral oil, vaseline, or crisco shortening to her legs. Ivermectin is sometimes used in severe cases. Here is an article about scaly legs and one on tassel foot:

thank you so much that is awesome advice i will try that and read up about it. do you know if it is contagious? should i be worried about my other hens getting it?
