Can someone help me with my rooster? He has been molting for the last couple of weeks and today I noticed that he had blood on one of his toes when he left the coop. His outside toes on both feet are horribly swollen and red. They look terrible. Feathers are re-growing on the toes from his molt. He's getting around fine, mating, eating and so on.
What is going on here? None of the hens are showing any symptoms. I don't have any other cochins, just him.
Please tell me this is related to the feathers growing back during a molt and not something I need to treat - NOT that I don't want to, but the last time I touched him was when I brought him home two years ago, we get along well but I think he would try to kill me if I tried to pick him up

    Hi,
Thanks for asking! Yes, his toes looked perfectly normal as soon as all of the feathers came back on his feet. I think it was the feathers pushing out that was causing him to look like that. I now have two more feather footed chickens (his daughters) so it will be interesting to see if the same thing happens there, as it never did with my smooth legged chickens.
