Tail feathers pointing down

I have a 5 month old New Hampshire Red hen. Her tail feathers have always been pointing up. She has bee squatting for me for a couple weeks now. Her tail feathers are now always pointed down. Wondering if that is a sign of getting ready to lay or if she just doesn't feel like raising her tail feathers any longer?

Have you checked her for illness or defect in the vent area and/or mites?
