I've been curious about Quail since I started hanging out on the forums. And now I'm wondering if I could suckers the parents in :p

Edited: So I've written in answers to my questions, everyone agree/want to correct me?

    Eggs:
How do they taste compared to chicken eggs? The same
How big are they compared to chicken eggs? Smaller :p Around the size of a normal Bantam egg
I'm assuming they lay daily? Yeppers, with plenty of sunshine

    Meat:
How big to coturnix grow (live and.. meat): 5ounces? Is that right
How's it taste, comparitively :p Didnt find that

    Living Conditions:
    Roost? None
    Nests? None
    Space requirements? 1foot each
Food? Game feed or unmedicated chick feed Can you give them an endless freechoice supply like chickens or will they overeat?
    Water? Yepp [IMG] Lots

Quote:EGGS--- MOST THINK THEY HAVE A SLIGHTLY MORE RICH FLAVOR THAN STORE BOUGHT CHICKEN EGGS--- AND NO, THEY ARE NOT THE SIZE OF BANTAM EGGS--- MORE LIKE 1/2 THE SIZE. AS A ROUGH GUESSTIMATE 3-5 QUAIL= 1 LG CHICKEN EGG. AND YES SO LONG AS THEY GET ABOUT 14HRS OF LIGHT A DAY THEY REWARD YOU WITH EGGS. A HEN IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING OVER 300 EGGS PER YEAR IF CONDITIONS ARE OPTIMAL.

LETS COVER A LIL MORE HERE--- 16-18 DAYS TO INCUBATE AND HATCH, 6-16 WKS TO SEXUALLY AND PHYSICALLY MATURE AND START REPRODUCING MORE EGGS TO HATCH. MOST DO NOT GO BROODY SO YOU WILL MORE THAN LIKELY HAVE TO INCUBATE.

MEAT--- 5 OZ COMPLETELY DRESSED OUT AND READY TO COOK IS MORE ACCURATE--- MAY EVEN BE SMALL. MOST FOLKS FOOLING WITH SIZE ARE REPORTING AROUND 11-13 OZ LIVE WEIGHT ON JUMBO BIRDS

LIVING CONDITIONS ARE ALL CORRECT, BUT THEY DO BEST AND LAY BETTER ON GAMEBIRD FEED OR GAMEBIRD STARTER--- NOT REGULAR CHICK STARTER--- ITS OK FOR THEM, BUT GAMEBIRD IS ACTUALLY SCIENTIFICALLY FORMULATED FOR THEM AND CONTAINS 100% NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS, NOT SURE REGULAR CHICK STARTER COVERS THAT, THO LOTSA FOLKS DO FEED IT TO THEM. YES FREECHOICE FEED IS FINE. THEY ALSO BENEFIT FROM OYSTER SHELL FOR CALCIUM INTAKE. 1SQ/FT PER BIRD IS A GOOD STARTING POINT AND A GREAT FORMULA FOR COLONIES, BUT THEY DO WELL WITH LESS SPACE IF YOUR DEALING WITH TRIOS OR PAIRS TOO.

AS FAR AS BEHAVIOR THEY ARE THE MOST HANDLEABLE BIRDS IN THE QUAIL SPECES, THE MOST DOCILE, LESS-FLIGHTY. THEY HAVE REMARKABLE HEALING SKILLS, ARE FAIRLY QUIET BIRDS, AND ARE A GREAT STARTER SPECES. GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY!
