Hello! I have been reading a few posts about the medication Tetroxy HCA-280. I was prescribed this by my vet for mycoplasma gallisepticum. I was told BY HIM to mix one WHOLE bag of solution to only 2 gallons of water. Does that seem right? That seems like A LOT to me. It is a 280 g (9.87 oz) bag. Can this disease be confirmed without a diagnostic test?

Got pics of bag that shows the formulation strength?

Using packets of antibiotics that are meant for cattle or horses is a bit confusing to most of us, since it is usually recommended to add the packet to a gallon of water to make a stock solution. You then add so much of the
that stock solution to each gallon of water for the chickens. Here is a link where it gives instructions for various diseases and how to make the stock solution, then use 1 ounce or 30 ml per gallon of that stock solution:

Casportpony in post 6 here says that you can use 3/4 tsp per gallon of the dry Tetroxy:

Hope this gives you a couple of options.

Thank you! This is crazy! I’m surprised my chickens aren’t dead yet!! The vet told me to mix the whole bag in 2 gallons of water and get that 2 gallons of water to the chickens!! He never said go dilute it again!!

You might want to send them a note on how to give it. Many vets do not know a lot about chickens. They are not given a lot of info in vet school. Also most antibiotics are not recommended for chickens, and they are used off label. Tetracycline or oxytetracycline is one that has been safely used in poultry in the past, so the vet may have just not known how it is given. It is kind of complicated if you go looking online for antibiotic directions in chickens.

I’m just upset at the money I spent on the vet and the meds. He was $200 to come out. Was there for only like 10 minutes. Then I bought 4 packs of the med at $15 each.
