There are two bills in the 2019 legislature supporting backyard chickens (up to 6) which will supersede city laws and future HOAs/PAs (but not existing HOAs).

    Senate bill SB86
    House bill HB2596

The Senate bill was voted 4-1 out of committee today and will go to the calendar committee to be voted on by the full Senate. The House Bill is pending in committee.

Please, please, please contact your elected officials and ask them to support these bills.

    Liz

Why can’t they just make it across the board and include existing HOA’s? That’s like saying “new cities only”!

So both bills have been passed out of committee with “favorable” reports. We are waiting for each bill to get on its respective calendar for votes.

And GilligansGirls, I know! But as it was explained, existing deed restrictions are a private contact between the HOA and the homeowner. The state has no jurisdiction over those. The state can, however, limit new HOAs.

Right, contacting my senator and rep.

This isn't going to *reduce* flock size to 6 in places that could already have more, is it?
