    Hi all, new here...[IMG]
I joined here in a panic because I noticed one of my chicks developed what I can only describe as an embolism on her chest. Well after some investigating I found that all of them had this slight protusion. So I was really happy to look at the FAQ's and see that this is just their "crop" I think.

Did anyone else experience this when first rearing their chicks. I wish I would have read something before going through this, LOL. I was really really scared. [IMG]

  3. My family's had chickens for a while, and I noticed it when I was young and it didn't concern me much. I was petting a hen and I felt a hard lumpy bump on her chest. I didn't think much of it, now I realize it was only her crop filled with grain. [IMG]

My mom, however, found out about the crop just a few days ago. I was in my room and I heard her yelling, "MALIEF, DID YOU EVEN REALIZE THAT LUCY HAS THIS HUGE TUMOR???"
I was pretty, scared because no, I hadn't realized that Lucy had a "huge tumor". I rushed to her and she was holding poor Lucy, feeling her crop. I saw it and just rolled my eyes.
"Oh, come on, that's just her crop. It's a pouch that holds rocks and grain and stuff."
(panicked) "Are you sure? It feels like a tumor!"
"I'm quite sure. It's just filled with little stones that she eats to grind her feed. All chickens have that."
(Mom grabs another chicken to make sure she also has a crop) "Really, that's pretty interesting."
A long lecture follows about the functions of a chicken's digestive system.

And, yeah, that was my adventure with the crop. [IMG]
