I just took my hen to the vet the other day. Learned she has "bumble foot". I got pain meds, antibiotics and some ointments and was instructed on how to remove the core my self if i chose to do so. I guess its a rarity for someone to take a chicken to the vet. I didnt know this. I just knew she was hurt and in pain so i took her to the doctor as i would. My chickens are pets. So how do i or can i prevent this from happening? They sleep/roost in a new barn we just built 7 months ago and they free range during the day.

    I'll be in the barn!
Make sure roosts aren't too high, there's nothing sharp or abrasive in coop/run or where they go during the day, etc. We have no chicken vet 'round here, so ive cured 4 chickens from bumble foot myself.
  3. I hope she gets better!!!
