Do the door!
Does anyone have tips on cooking turnips and rutabaga (@Sapphire Sebright)? I absolutely love them but they always end up having hard spots and I have no idea why :hit
I plan on mashing them with potatoes.
How are you cooking them? I've found that turnips don't cook to as soft a degree as, say, butternut squash. Never done rutabaga.
I just cut them into slices about 1/2 or 1/4 inch thick, then cut them into chunks. Boil for a while, until tender -- a fork should slide in easily -- and then drain and mash with butter.
