1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes I am. We had chickens when I was a child, but most memories were of roosters flying at me when I collected eggs. Our city recently passed an ordinance to allow chickens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I had six, four are still alive after the dog attack tonight. I can only pray. At one point my twin daughters wanted to be veterinarians. They are working to save the four I have left. They are 10 months old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We had 3 of each Easter Eggers and Speckled Sussex. Two of the Easter Eggers did not make it.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
When I decided I wanted to get chickens I did a lot of online research. This site has been my main source of education. It helped me on what chickens to purchase, when, what to feed, chicken house design, etc.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My grandsons, two of which live near. I enjoy crafts and reading. But my children are my life.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Mine, yours and ours. 8 kids, 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. They are not done yet. My husband of 26 years was retired USAF and passed unexpectedly 6 weeks ago. At home we had one adult child, 4 dogs and 6 chickens. Well that has changed. One dog has passed, one dog has been spayed and is heart broken over the loss of dad. Two chickens are gone and four are hanging on for dear life. One other adult child has moved in with grandson and 2 dogs (they got my secure chickens). My daughter has 4 horses (not kept here) that we do enjoy. I work as an office manager full time and love my job and my employer. Small company, family values. I can only pray this year gets better.
Again I would like to thank all of the members that jumped in tonight and gave me input into my latest tragedy. This is the first forum I have been on and you all were amazing
