I am wanting to hatch some chickens for chicken and dressing. I will be butchering them a few days before Thanksgiving. I will be setting about 5 eggs and they will be barnyard mutts. I know Cornish-X's will be ready in about 8 weeks, but how long will I need to raise the "mutts" before slaughter. I also realize there will not be a lot of meat. But I just want the homemade broth and the meat for dressing. So...When should I set the eggs?
