Welcome everyone to the bantam thread! I was looking for a bantam thread and found one, but it had not been posted in for a while and was inactive, but I thought it was a good idea so I'm picking it back up again! This thread is for all breeds of bantam fowl so feel free to post pics, discuss bantams, give advice, etc. All BYC rules apply. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!

Here are my brand new bantam chicks! Two are golden laced sebrights, and I'm not sure about the other two. They are about a week old and are very small! Congratulations on getting a birchen Cochin, I have always loved that color. I have had lots of bantams before so these are not my first. They are pretty much the same as standard chickens, except that they lay small eggs. Our Cochins often get mud stuck it their feathered feet, and have needed a couple baths before. Bantams also could be more prone to predators so be careful of you live in an area with predators. Most of all bantams are great pets and are easy to handle! Their names are Tilly, Button, Primrose, and Pinecone. If anyone has guesses on their breed that would be great. Thank you!

Love my pecky 2, we had a roo named Pecky. He was our first chicken and our german shepard killed her the first chance she got.. :( We got Pecky 2 and gave away our dog after lots of though. I really didnt want to see her go, but really wanted to be able to have free rangers and yard eggs. Bantams are how we started. We now have 11 bantams+the bating ones and 12 large or regular size! I love them all! I like the diversity too, it helps with remembering names! The only con is they cant all free range now for the sake of having pure breed fertile bb red eggs when my pullets start to lay!
P.s. you all have some nice looking chicks! #bantamfan

Thank you and welcome to the thread! We have a large fowl cochin so we know about the muddy feet (it does not help that she is white either[IMG]). Thank you about the warning with predators. I love their names, in fact I was thinking on naming my birchen bantam button, it is very cute, but I don't know I always name them when they get here!

Just curious, does anybody know how much space bantams need,I have three but four altogether although one sleeps with the big hens.I just separated them because they would run off and lay eggs and places they shouldn’t and because they just seem so much happier in A cage alone.I believe the runs big enough, but the coop is quit small, smaller then I thought because they got fluffy and much fatter hen when they were chicks,How much space will they require?Im thinking they will do just fine but am unsure
