This will be sorta like a blog for me to post my updates on how the Bessie project is coming along.
First, i should clear some things up. A few months ago, Ducks and Banny hens was on here posting some poor misinformation about the Bessie project. First, Bessies don't even exist yet, but the ducks he was calling Bessie do breed true, although I personally have deep doubts about them being Rouen crosses. Those ducks, along with the others used in this project, are being called 'Proto-Bessemers'. Next, They are not going to be like those three proto-bessemers, because other proto-bessemers are runner like. He did come back and correct most of the information he misquoted, but now that everything's cleared up, onto the project.
So far, the breeds being used in the first actual Proto-Bessie crossing are the Rouen-like protobessies and the runner-like protobessies. We are selecting matings for the bib gene, aside from Hardiness, Vitality, intellegence, that sort of thing. I will try to remember to keep you all updated here!

Do you have any pics of your bessies?? Sounds like a very interesting project.

Maybe ducks and banny hens was still working on her bessemer project?

A picture providing a good representation of both types of Proto-Bessies,
The drake is a Rouen type, like the ones DaBh was posting about, and the duck is a Runner type (she's my all-time favourite duck. I trained her to follow me around like a puppy!)

Ummm, this was her idea. She is working on creating the breed. No, it does not exist "yet", But she, and others (I think?) are trying to create it. Do you have a problem with the Bessemer project? I don't see anything wrong with it really, but everyone has their opinions [IMG]

You have beautiful birds and with proper management we would all love to hear of your success in creating a new breed. I hope the negativity does not get to you.

Can you give a better explanation of the cross breeding you are doing for this project? Those are beautiful ducks!

Those are typical Buff Ducks; the breed not the color.

I've got nothing against a breeding project. This project is better than most because it has stated goals.
