Earlier this fall, one of my EE hens disapeared and I was sure that a coon got her.

Today, she materialized out of the bog with 10 (!!!!!) chicks in tow!!!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

You could knock me over with a feather. I have NO idea how she survived, let alone hatched 10 healthy chicks in below freezing weather out in the wilds of our property. I cried and cried tears of joy. Happy Halloween everybody [IMG]

Similiar thing happened to me a few years ago. after a warm October I was working in the yard, heard a hen clucking the "mother hen" cluck.

Went in the hay loft w a 5 gallon pail, 14 chicks.

they spent a month in my basement, then the winter in my sister's

    Happy Halloween

fantastic story! And a very nice happy ending, now get out there and get us some pics please!

I am really surprised preditors didn't get them, everyone is so lucky. And to think she brought the family back home where she knows there is love for a chicken. A very nice warm story, thanks for sharing.
