A couple of weeks ago, I found an egg in the muscovy nest with the shell chipped out of an area about the size of a 50 cent piece. The membrane was not damaged and the chick was still alive. I put a patch of duct tape over it to help keep out dirt and make it a bit stronger and hoped for the best. Well, it hatched last night only a day behind the rest of the hatch. There is a total of 9 of the little cuties in that nest now.

Wow, you've got so lucky that no bad bacteria got into it and started to grow and eat the membrane. This show never to give up and to keep on trying.

A big plus was that it was a "clean" nest. The duck that was setting on it kept it and herself clean so the egg was clean also. I am sure that was a big factor also.

That's wonderful! I have had to use Wax to seal up cracked eggs many times, they always hatch just fine... we named the first duckling we had to use the method on Crayola [IMG]

    Awesome. [IMG]

And a great tip to have in a pinch. Wax, yes. But duct tape. [IMG] I guess you really can use duct tape to fix anything.
