So I am new to the whole chicken thing. But already I keep hearing some funny things from people. I thought this could be a fun thread. So I will start.....

    1. I thought you had to have a rooster to get eggs.

    2. I thought all chickens were white.

    3. What are you going to do with the chickens in winter?

When I tell people that the babies love to climb all over us - I get "ewww - don't they poop on you" I just say "nope - I put little tiny diapers on them" [IMG] WEIGH the pro's and con's people! An occasional baby chicken dropping on you vs. snuggles, kisses, warm little feet, the list goes on...

Now when Henry stands on my back - I do get a little nervous... [IMG]

Why in the world would you want THOSE things?

    Don't they stink?

Do they carry diseases.....like avian flu?

Do you actually EAT their eggs? Eeeeuuuuuwwww!

(after they hold one of the silkies) Well....they are kind of cute........

    Some of my favorites

    1. You let them sit on your lap!!!!!!! And what better thing for a chicken to do than sit on a lap, and eat some grapes
    2. Aren't you afraid of that rooster? What is to be afraid of, if he comes at me aggressively, it is the stew pot for him
    3. Why do you want chickens? And Why not I ask right back

I had a lady tell me that I had to be sure to let the eggs sit for awhile in the coop, otherwise, if they were too fresh, they would be fertilized. Not kidding. [IMG] I stammered, becaue I could tell that she was the kind of person who "knew" what she was talking about. So I said I would keep it in mind and wandered off politely. [IMG]

Just last night we went to a dinner party and my husband in the nicest way told a funny story that to the unloving chicken people there made me sound like the crazy chicken lady. At the end of the story one lady looked at me with her face all screwed up and said "you actually let the walk around in your yard"? Then another one said "she's trying to be Martha Stewart". I get a lot of Martha Stewart commits.

    1. someone once said to me " i got some eggs from the supermarket i keep them on the shelf for one year, but they havnt hatched yet. you are a chicken person, can you tell me how long i have to wait?" [IMG] i then told them about incubators and that they need to be fertile eggs. lol

    2. i tell someone i have chickens, they say "i once had a rooster....."(i ask them what happened to it)"...it didnt lay any eggs so we gave it away." [IMG]
