The HATCH That HASN'T/ ROUEN BABY{LuckyDucky& PIC..

i have never had trouble hatching ducklings. knock on wood. i incubate everything the same way. adding too much water to the bator throughout the entire incubation process can cause the embryos to stay a little chubby because of improper evaporation of the egg. chubby embryos can have trouble turning inside the egg, therefore zipping the egg after pipping can be tough if they cannot turn. i used to have a problem with eggs pipping and then dying. thats when i started dry hatching. no problems anymore. another thing is, waterfowl just simply seems to take longer to hatch. i have had a few that took 48 hrs from pip to out.

Julie- I have seen something similar to what you describe on eggs when the duckling is not possitioned correctly. It may turn out that this little one is backwards in the egg- and the mark you can see is from it trying to pip. They can till hatch that way- but they ususally take longer- and can sometimes need a little help. If thats what it is...watch for leg and feet issues - as the legs are often squashed up the wrong way when they hacth from the wrong end.

THANKS destinduck & KansasKid for posting for me to leave humidity up cuz I don't have a clue & I believe YOU KNOW Best!! ~Other posts confuse me by telling me opposite, but Thanks to everyone for trying to help.

Temp is 99 Humidity is 80+ yes they don't stay steady when humidity drops I've been adding hot water to container/sponge to get it back up. Over night /by morning temp is a little lower and humidity was at a little over 70. Uggg... I'm sure now this is where my problem is. ~I have a couple pictures of 1egg that shell looks different, at 1st it Wasn't As Noticeable. ~I WILL POST PIC. in a minute

The mark I seen wasn't an outside mark its a dark spot/black mark inside I guess. Looks like a shadow at first. I'm trying to post pictures right now. Thanks a lot, Julie

That is normal. They scratch the membrane from inside with their toes, causing tiny bleedings. These look like what you have described. They should pip soon.

Last night: 1 egg pip. Today: same egg has another pip. The eggs are moving, this must mean their still alive then. Right? *HOW DO I KEEP HUMIDITY UP? It's back down to 78/79. I put some books(for weight) on top of the incubator cuz I can see a little gap a long the sides. Maybe that will help. ~Now tomorrow is lock down for the other 5 eggs, which are also in the incubator right now.

ok, i'm assuming you have an LG or hovabator or some other styrofoam bator right? do you see the pencil size holes on the top of the incubator above and below the viewing windows? Take something the same size and plug 'em.
