Does the dark egg smell bad at all? It kind of looks like it might be bad

I used a rolled up wash cloth for humidity, it really works well.

Yes thats exactly what I thought you meant...from the inside. When a duckling is in the wrong position it is more likely to pip through a vein causing it to bleed. When pipping into the aircell- there is movement in the membrane which allows the hole to rip along rather than through the tougher vein. When they have to pip through the membrane and shell at the same time- bleeds often occur- turning the egg dark just as I can see in your photo.

A second pip ususally means they are ready to start unzipping as they have clearly turned in the egg to make to second hole.... might not be too much longer before that egg there in the middle really starts to get a move on hatching.

the dark egg, its not the egg that has the pip marks yet. or is there a pip in dark egg which we cant see yet? Thanks so much for your posts, Julie

Not neccesarily... it might- but the blood should clot- the dark is just the blood spread out between the membrane and the shell. Dont give up hope for it yet... I have had plenty hatch from the wrong end.

I cant see the whole egg in the photo- there may be a small crack in the shell somewhere- have a really good look apart form that - all you can really do now is sit very still for a while and watch it- and hope that you see a wobble...that will mean its still alive.

I have a question: *Friday/tomorrow is lock down for 5 duck eggs which are & have been locked down since this hatch, are they going to be ok since they only been turned 2x's since Sunday? Not Turned or Misted in 6 days) Thanks, Julie

~~Be Back with info in a bit.~

I have no idea because I haven't yet successfully hatched anything (until next weekend hopefully) but I would manage a guess that you should turn and mist tomorrow at least then go to lock down. I think it's pretty important to keep them moist, right?
