My Lil Buddy Foghorn Jr just died. He was a almost 3 years old and one helluva good rooster. He was the King around here. Never too rough on the hens and kept all the young roos well mannered. He was good with babies and the rascal would even sit on eggs when a broody would get up to do her business.
He was in the pen eating, scratching, pooping, and banging hens this morning. Just having himself a good ol' chicken time doing chicken things. When I went to look for eggs about an hour ago, I found him in a nest. At least I'm lucky to have several of his sires. One will emerge to take his place.

Long live the King!

So sorry he's gone. He was a handsome dude :hugs
Thanks for your condolences. I've done got him buried and his headstone in place temporarily. A couple months ago my wife stayed crying and I asked her what was wrong, she said she was worried some of her babies (ones she hand raised) were getting old and gonna die. So I got a sack of concrete and made a little headstone for the future. Now I just gotta chisel his name into it.
Maybe I'm just getting old and soft, but I've sat out there by his grave crying and doing shots of shine. He was a good bird far as birds go. Out of about the 35 roosters I have now, He was my Lil Buddy. :hit

Thanks everybody! It's been a helluva day. Pretty Boy Floyd (my last Red Jungle Fowl)got put in a pen yesterday cause since molting hard and fast, all he wants to do is fight or go play chicken with the cars up on the blacktop. He escaped before I could feed everyone this morning and wasn't able to find him. Thought he was dead in the road but it was a Silkhorn rooster instead. Then I found Jr dead in a nest when checking for eggs. After burying Jr, I started looking for Floyd again. I didn't find Floyd then but I found one of my senior Rhodies decapitated under some bushes. Damn that old coon to hell. But at least about the time I got done bury the Rhodie, here comes Floyd flying across the creek back home.
He had been back in the swamp across the creek today instead of playing chicken on the blacktop. I've got to put him and my RJF hen in a breeding cage and make some babies before the poor dumb b@st@rd finishes the job playing chicken in the road.
Seems like when it rain, it pours!
