Anyone here on BYC have Lavender Marans? I just bought one from a reputable local breeder. Not much info or photos here on BYC of them. So decided to start this thread.
Mine is about 3-4 months old. Bought her with a BCM pullet the same age. I understand the lavender gene was introduced using lavender orpingtons many generations ago. It is not a recognized color yet.
She looks just like her BCM sister except for coloring of course. Photos attached not the best. They are still in quarantine.
Per the breeder, should lay dark copper eggs like the BCM.
Anyone have photos of their birds or eggs? Super curious.
Thanks! 🙂

I'm following this thread. My daughter discovered Lavenders this spring and wants them as well. Hopefully will get some hatching eggs around the first of the year.
Please post when you do! I will update as well with any interesting events, like a first egg. Though if Bella here is anything like the Blue Birchen Marans I had from the same breeder, will be many months before that happens. 😊

I am going to change the thread name and add "thread" so hopefully others who are looking for info or have birds will join in as well.😊

Right now I'm looking at a breeder in Tennessee for purchasing hatching eggs. They are close enough that its under a 3 hour drive so I could avoid the shipping route. I've never hatched shipped eggs, and considering eggs would cost me a arm and a leg I'm wary on taking that chance. They also offer chicks, which could be the way to go not sure yet. They are currently sold out so have until November to decide before I contact them to put my name on next years waiting list.

Having dealt with shipped eggs many times with very mixed results, agree it is worth the drive to pick them up. Hatching them yourself is always fun, but if you buy chicks, you will get chicks for sure.😊

If I buy chicks I will for sure get Lavender chicks, the hatching eggs are labeled as Lavender and Lavender/black split. I'm currently thinking at 17 a chick with last years minimum of 6 chicks it is the best way to go. Ideally I only want 3 girls and maybe 1 boy. I already have black copper marans so the thought of getting eggs and hatching out all splits is worrisome.

Thank you for starting this thread :) I had a difficult time finding information on lavender merans on here

I need to work on remembering my phone to get more photos when hanging with my chickens. I got my lavender merans from a local breeder, they are 9 weeks.

Do you mind sharing where you got them from? I'm looking to add a couple next year and think I have a breeder chosen but recently there has been conflicting info on their facebook about if they will be breeding next year or not. So now I'm trying to find a few backup options if my original plan falls through. It would have been nice if my daughter had discovered this variety before they stopped taking orders for the year but oh well.

Sure, I got them from a local breeder here in Nova Scotia. I know she does not ship. If you're in NS, send me a message and I'll let you know how to get a hold of her. I know she currently has lavender merans chicks for sale, but thats no help again if you're not in NS.
