The Old Folks Home

SCG and others...personally, I rather like it when you chime in. I learn stuff.

I'm too young to get the vaccine. I've asked about it.

I think I'm lucky that my doc sent me for a mammography at my age. Tmi...I know...lol.

Always trying to outmaneuver the big c.

Ish...I don't want to get shingles. I have to flip flop like a fish to sleep and always get up from my left side. Otherwise I'm screwed.

Ok...whew! Double whew! I'm glad. I thought it sounded depressing when I reread my posts. Sometimes I think I come across as blunt...almost to the point of being rude if I post when I'm tired, which is never my intention. Ok...only once was it my intention...but they were asking for it. I prefer to be wicked crazy fun with a side of insanity.

Razorblade you....yikes! I cannot comment on why that was my thought.

I can't really confirm that logic follows me 100% of the time.

Chiming in as well;
Shingles-first time @ age 55 (reason the CML diagnosis was missed until 6 months and enormous spleen later), got the vaccine, 2 nd round with shingles 5 yrs later, 3 rd round last winter.
Fortunately none were terrible. An old friend of mine, one round of shingles, in the spine, so bad she wound up on morphine patches last I knew she was still suffering years later.
Now that's just scary.

Time for a public service announcement:

Skin.

I like skin.

I prefer skin to be intact, solid, and fulfilling its function of awesomeness.

Skin.

Intact skin.

Yep... I am old enough that I have many, achem, "skin failures". And I didn't like them I tell you!

I once sat and watched while the skin on the back of my hand split open in giant fisures. Not nice, not pleasant. Didn't feel great either.

I have had sores and wounds and such. I have gotten to say "what a nice color of bone I have there".

But intact skin is BEST!

I concur with you 100% Intact skin is THE best!
thumbsup.gif

Although I haven't seen any bones yet. I haven't been razor bladed. I haven't had an operation. Stitches once.

I think the worse thing I've ever had with my skin is allergies in 2001 when my palms broke out in tiny, watery whitish blisters. That's when I started wearing vinyl gloves for chores and cooking (raw meats) so I didn't get infection in my hands. It was painful and they'd ooze.

The doc put me on steroids to clear it up. I couldn't catch vehicle keys that were tossed at me or about a decade...but I can now.

I also have to watch what I eat because it seems to dry me from the inside out (at least that what it feels like) and the skin on my lips and hands get tight and crack open. But not to the bone.

I'm aware I'm my skin isn't healing as well when I get a scratch/cut...and my fingernail growth is not consistent which is causing horizontal ridges. But I just had an appointment with my optometrist; my inner eye looks good and my capillaries in there look fantastic. So I'm keeping the diabetes in check. But that's it for me as far as skin.

I've had very few things in life. My coccyc broken a few times, a couple of busted ribs and this dumb elbow which belongs to the dumb person who is using it.

Last year I thought I was having a stroke.... face felt numb eye wouldnt open.... went to the hospital.

Bells Palsy.... Round of antibiotics and some time and all was better.

They said it is caused by a viral infection in the inner ear where your facial nerves pass through. Most likely the Shingles Virus...

I am old enough for the vaccine just havent found someone to give me an innoculation.
