The Old Folks Home

This bird sits out front of a restaurant a couple of miles from my house.

That's an awesome pic! Wow, poor guy...he's weighted AND chained. Bad rooster!

:hugsI hate losing them like that. I don't know how people manage to raise chicks in a free-ranging flock; too many times, when I've had hens sitting on eggs around the other chickens, I'd find a pecked-to-death chick as the first indication that the eggs were starting to hatch. I finally learned to risk the hen abandoning the eggs by putting her somewhere else, safe from the other birds.
It can get a bit hairy at times. We sectioned off the coop at the back...originally for roosters but also now for broodies/chicks. Or laying hens for eating eggs. I've got one on guinea eggs. The rest...are a pain.

Bunny, I notice that rooster has a very secure leash. Just goes to show you how much people will want a giant metal rooster.

Finally woke up enough to function as a human being. Did my workout, then finished quilting block #3.

that is lovely.... I am curious how do you get your quilting stitching so perfect is it free hand or a pattern you call up on the sewing machine. :pop

I have one hen that LOVESHE to go broody. ...and then pecks to death anything that hatches.

At first I thought she was a first timer...and would get a hang of things...nope.

She likes to brood eggs and kill chicks.

While I have heard of hens pecking another hen's chicks to death, I have not heard much about hens that always pick their own hatches to death.

I agree that she needs a hot bath with salt, carrots, potatoes, onions, egg noodles, garlic, etc.
