The Old Folks Home

Do they use it during the day? I had to teach them where the "warm" was by repeatedly putting them back in after they'd pop out--I had twenty of them, so it was rather like herding cats, but they did figure out it was warm and learned to go under there to warm up.
But the room they were in had big windows and a natural sunset. Maybe you could have the timer go off at seven, but light a candle on the vanity for a simulated "twilight". Then see if they figure out?
Yes, they use it during the day without difficulty.

This morning DH was up at 5:30 and peeked in on them. He said the were out from under the pad in the dark and huddled in a corner. He said he turned on the light and they eventually figured out to back under the heating pad.

I'm wondering if maybe the heating pad is putting out too much heat for them and I need to raise it a bit. IDK.

Good morning all. Pot of decaf ready for those so inclined.

Morning @Hermits Garden I'm a decaf person also, not out of preference but necessity. Discovered last year that I have Gastritis, diverticulitis and IBS so had to give up caffeine.:hit
I'll give up caffeine in my coffee and tea but they will pry a Hershey Bar from my cold lifeless hand.

Thank you for your service. What branch? Hubs is retired AF.

Also--yuck! I hate ladder work. Still have a bunch yet to do. Be safe!
Thank him for his service as well.. I was also AF.. worked in logistics management.. I was the one who gave headaches and had a ball at it.

If it’s too warm under there, they won’t use it so I think you’re on to something. Turn it down a notch!

I arched the framework so it's higher. May have to swap out the heating pads. Thanks for all your help Blooie. You are the greatest!

OK, the phrase necessity is the mother of invention is true. This old crib was in the shed when I bought the place.. I've had it sitting in a spare bedroom since.. But I needed an outside brooder for the bigger chicks.. All EE pullets (Thank You, Lord).. so I went to work...Viola! I lined the inside with deer netting before putting the feed bags down to water proof the bottom,,, then had some garden wire that I used to make a lid, and Gator's old comforter over top... Now, where to put the hammock?

They certainly didn't take any time at all getting comfy.
