I thought now would be as good a time as any to start a little documenting journey of our little flock. We are reasonably new to chickens—a little over a year and a half of experience. Our hens double as our pets. My kids really seem to enjoy them. So, without further ado, here is our flock.
The Peeplets. They happened to us. We weren’t searching out babies until a neighbor asked us to take them because they weren’t working out. So, we got them at about 3 weeks old and have had them almost 3 weeks. They’re starting to enjoy some time outside.
Bubble (little black one in the back)
Mrs. Peeps (barred in the front)
Ducky (neck stretcher in the back)
Sprinkle (light one in front)
Our best guesses to breeds are barred rocks and RSL. Our neighbor was told some were colored eggers, and some of the barred olive eggers or starlight green eggers also match the looks of girls this age. I guess we will know more as the mature and begin laying.
This is Opal our RIR. She is our alarm flock: she goes off when it’s time to hide from perceived danger. She doesn’t care for close contact and mostly kind of just whines around the yard.
This is Belle, our Sapphire Gem. She’s beautiful and sweet, and clearly very involved.
We will be building a new coop really soon, so expect some
Photos of that along the way, and of course, our growing chicks. Thanks for following
