Queen Elizabeth took a tour of Colonial Williamsburg in a horse-drawn carriage last Thursday. The restored town is an exact replica of America as it was 300 years ago. She looked around and chuckled, then was heard to say to an aide:
"It’s probably the only place in the United States where you don’t have to press one for English.”

President Bush and first lady Laura Bush hosted Her Highness at a big state dinner later. The really nice thing about it was that President Bush took the time to learn a little bit of English so he could speak with her. Upon her arrival, The Queen was welcomed with a 21-gun salute, too.... well, 22 guns if you count Dick Cheney’s shotgun, which went off accidentally again.

There was one really embarrassing moment, though. When the Queen told President Bush she had been on the throne for over 55 years, he leaned over to her and said, “you might wanna try Metamucil, there, your Highness...” [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Elderoo, glad you started posting here. Like your sense of humor.
Wolf, whenever he makes one of his small gaffs, I'm reminded of Ann Richardson's quote about his father, "...he was born with a silver foot in his mouth."

I also heard that Mickey Rooney, the actor, was introduced to the QUeen Mother during her stateside visit and he gaffed one himself.

It seems that when she extended her hand to him in greeting, he grabbed hold of her paw and planted a big 'ol wet smoocheroo on it. Really slobbered it on, as the story goes.

However, it seems you are only supposed to take her hand in yours, pat the back of it and give an obsequious bow towards the monarch. Juicing up the royal backhand is no-no.

After her 22 gun salute at the White House, being the butt of GW's constipation remedies and old-age jokes and then Mr. Rooney's salivating glove wetting - she must think we're a bunch of uncouth rubes here in the Colonies.

    Too too funny!
I was reading online that the Upper Crust accent that the Royals have always had has been falling by the wayside...I'll have to look up the article.
