Do they get paid to ring the bells or do they volunteer?

Quote:Nope, not just these days....back in the 70's when I was a wee teen, I rang the bell for cash! It was never a volunteer position unless you just volunteered!

I rang the bell for 1 day in about the 6th grade and got teased about it from my older sister and quit... she would sing to me this "put a nickle in the drum save another drunken bum... SA, SA, SA. I think it is a good organization.

[IMG] And I thought it'd always been volunteer based. The article was interesting though.

Quote:LOL, I did it for $$ for Christmas. I lived in Tacoma at the time, and I think minimum wage was about $1.75/hour! Of course that was back in the day when it was good for kids to work and make money to buy the things they thought they needed! I use to pick berries all summer also, I really needed designer jeans ya know!

  10. well kudos to those who can stand to be there ringing that darn bell.. if gives me a killer headache just walking past them!
(they have much better brain cells and stamina than I)

even though it is a good organization.. i don't think I could by enough aspirin to get me through the first day
