This is Momma, she was attacked by 1 of 2 hawks in the area. My dog found her and another who was hiding.
She's now survived 2 hawk attacks and 1 raccoon attack.
She's better than our rooster!!!!

She's little cut up but eating and drinking.

We love her a lot!!
We're just so happy she's alive!!!

We added 3 more eggs today to this weeks batch from 3 layers!!!

I want to thank everyone who helped me in our last chicken attack. It made it a lot easier to know if she was going to make it or not.
Also, my dog has become the best dog ever with the chickens. It's amazing when you take time to teach them.

Momma isn't looking too good today. I bathed, cleaned, dried and disinfected her. She hardly wants to eat, just sleep.
The wound smells but it's clean, no black dead skin, not infected, there is some bruising around it. And on her other shoulder, maybe internal wounds?
I am keeping her inside for now.
hopefully she bounces back.

btw she seemed to get better until I put her back out at night to sleep. It's been very cold but I thought it would help fight infection.

Yes keep her in a warm place. She is likely dealing with stress right now. My hen didn't show interest in food for a couple of days after her hawk attack. I gave her some liquid vitamins to the beak for the first couple of days. I treated her wounds with Wonderdust. Great stuff. Stops bleeding, and puts a scab on the wound fast. I keep Pen G around here for wounds to prevent infection. A tenth of a ml for a few days should stop any internal infection.

I really need to get injectable antibiotics. I hope that when we expand the coup and only let them out supervised these attacks will lesson. Everyday is a learning experience I wonder how life will be when we add goats.
Why does she smell so bad? I am unable to keep her indoors its that bad.

She didn't make it. I'm assuming the smell was sepsis? The hawk must have crushed her internally. RIP momma. I know you wouldn't of been happy without being able to rule the roost and I think that's what made you give in. You were a kind leader.

I am so sorry for your loss and I have that same chicken and last night she was just attacked by a rocoon and I hope that she is a fighter just like your chicken Momma
