Is there a way to check the accuracy of your thememeter?

If you have access to a good medical grade thermometer you can compare it to that, or try several thermometers to see how many read the same temp.

Boil some water, it shouldn't get too far above 103 degrees. With some special pots you can get it to 107, but that's hard to do. Also, try freezing some water, and keep an eye on it, right as it's turning to slush, you know it's reached freezing, 32 degrees. Check it then. That's how I've done it in the past, I find it works pretty well. Good luck.
