Spent alot of time this weekend with Casino and her two chicks. Had to go to the nursery to let them out in the mornings and put them back in at night. I don't mind though - I like knowing they're safe at night for now. The little ones are starting to steal food away from mom. The other day we found a centipede and after Casino killed it, one of them ran off with it. Then we found a gecko - and after Casino killed it - one ran off with the tail and the other ran off with the body. Casino tried to get them back, but didn't really try all that hard. Plus one of them had run into some wire netting that was rolled up so Casino wouldn't fit in there anyways. It was so funny. They are officially 1 week old today! Not sure if they were hatched last Saturday or Sunday but either way it's been a week!

Today I noticed the chicks roosting on low branches. When I pick them up they try to fly away also. They really do develop quite quickly!

Resting yesterday afternoon - it was a hot one. [IMG]

In their night time nest. Both of them have some patterning on their wings. Will that last? Casino is sitting on some white smooth rocks I had originally put in the food dish to weigh it down. Apparently she thinks they are eggs and put them under her. [IMG]

They're so cute! You're absolutely right about how quickly they develop. I just bought 4 one week olds and they're already losing their cute fuzzy-butt qualities for the veloceraptor stage.

Thanks everyone!! I think they're adorable too. [IMG]

So they're going to look like velociraptors soon? haha. I've tentatively named the browner one Bronty - short for Brontosaurus, and my friend named the more yellow one tentatively Beyonce.

I'm wondering how long I will have to/can lock them up at night. Maybe another week? When I put them in, Casino seems a little bit anxious, but then she gathers up her rocks and settles on them, then the chicks get under her. I try to wait till the last minute before I leave for the day to put them in. I guess it's good to have the rocks - she doesn't seem to want to escape - at least not till morning. They're starting to fly around a bit when following mom around or trying to climb up on something. Wonder how high they'll be able to fly in another week?
