How common is it for feed stores to sell chicks and say that they are a certain gender? The feed store that I got my chicks from said that they were all pullets. I doubted that they really knew, but could they be telling the truth?

They do come sexed from the hatcheries ... but it's not without mistake... I think it's like a 10% margin of error or something.

I've been so lucky with my pullet chicks so far....All my 'sexed' chicks have been accurate! Not one rooster! I'm amazed at how well they've done. 3 batches of ideal chicks, and one feed store batch.

I've heard there's normally a 10 percent margin of error though.

The Feed Store told me, too that if one of the birds they sold me as a PULLET turns out to be a boy, I can get a replacement girl! (what a deal, huh?) They ordered all RIR pullets from Welp and so far the ones that I chose look girlie [IMG]
    Good Luck!

Generally it is considered that the sexing is pretty accurate, but one has to consider that the sexing is done by humans and that the parts being looked at are pretty darn small. Mistakes will happen. For the most part I got females and only rarely ended up with a rooster. Although there was at least one time, when I got as many roosters as pullets. I guess the odds were against me that time. I must have gotten all the boys in that batch [IMG]
