I'm new to keeping chickens and have read a good bit about it but need some more advice. Have built a hen house myself and an enclosed run. The house is 4' by 4' and 3.5' tall. Run is enclosed and moveable and is 10' by 4'. Have 4 hens arriving on Saturday. I bought a 1.5ltr drinker and 1kg feeder. Where should I put them?? The neighbour has cats will they bother them? If I buy oyster shell how do I give it to the hens? I only built one nest box, is that enough? It's removeable and if I need to I could build a double one.

One nest box is fine for four hens. As for oyster shell and grit, I have little cups that clip onto the wall in the coop. I personally prefer the feeder/waterer in the coop if there is enough room.

As far as cats, I've personally never had cats bother my adult, standard size chickens, the cats seem quite intimidated by them in fact. It's always possible though so you should keep an eye on things for a while.

I have the room so inside the coop it shall be. Will they be ok on the floor or do they need to be raised? Will be getting near adult hens so hopefully the cats won't be an issue but I shall look out for it.

! Great to have you aboard! I agree with the above poster - one nest box is sufficient for 4 hens. Mine coop came with six boxes. I have 18 hens and everyday all the eggs are in two boxes. Best of luck to you and have fun!
