I've had my first guineas out of the brooder and then baby pen and outside for a few weeks now. They're in their own pen, in the middle of things, where the ducks can see them and vice versa and they could all interact a bit etc. Well a week ago they got out, (still not sure how that pen door got left open) and when I went outside everyone was mingling with no problems. It was like the guieas didnt even notice ( or care) that they were surrounded by 40 ducks.[IMG] They are all ranging together and when we call the ducks to come for treats or to head for bed at night the guineas come right back with them. I know as they grow older they will grow bolder, ( they're 7 weeks old) but for now I'm at least happy with the ways things are working out.

Here's the problem... Now I want more guineas. [IMG]

Awesome to hear they are proving to be comparable for you. I am considering putting some guineas in with my chickens @ the barn--- just scared of them breeding together--- as of now that is the only thing holding me back.

Well I did some research and, among other things, found a thread here at BYC about a chicken and guinea hybrid, complete with pictures. It's name was Miracle. ( search and I'm sure you'll find the thread) Apparently it doesn't happen very often and when it does the hybrids don't live too long. My neighbor on the next farm over has chickens and guineas and says she's NEVER seen it happen. So I dont think it's too common.

And to think... I was worried about how they'd all get along. I called the ducks for treats today and 40 ducks came running... with 6 guineas right in the middle. [IMG] The guineas ate the peas right along with everyone else.
