My broody hen has been sitting on 17 eggs. The 21st day was Sunday. Each egg has a clear sack on the large end like it is supposed to, one egg was bad, and another was not fertilized. But no pipping, no nothing. What are the odds? It has been off and on cold here, but she has been very good about not leaving the eggs for long.

She did start out having laid the eggs in a feed bucket on hay, which I left out since the ladies took a liking to laying eggs in there. I think they feel more protected. I wonder that even with the eggs being on hay, with the hen laying on them, could the aluminum feed bucket maybe have conducted too much cold?

Or.....maybe all I needed to do was post this for the first one to start pipping....

Got the first hatch yesterday on April Fool's Day. Mom and Joker are doing well. 13 eggs left, hoping to get a sibling or two for this little one.
