I'll be getting day old chicks this Friday and I already have 8 chicks that will be 2 1/2 weeks. Can they be in the same brooder? They are all from the same person.

The older chicks will pick on and trample the day olds. Not a good idea to put them together at this point.

If you can set up your brooder with a wire divider and provide the right heat for both groups, it will make integration much easier when you do it. You can then introduce the older chicks into the space occupied by the younger set, one older chick at a time for supervised play dates. After you are assured that is going well, you can put several older ones in, and keep adding them, until they are all together. They will actually integrate better at a younger age. Give the babies time to grow a bit before integrating them. You don't want to do it until they are able to run around well. You'll also need to be sure there's room for the babies to get away from the older ones. How many babies??? The more the better as far as integration goes.

At least 4 more. Unless chicken math gets the best of me. Lol the 8 I have are so sweet. Only my buff cochin is a little fearful and chirps the whole time I'm holding her. Poor thing lol thanks so much for the help. I was thinking about making a divider and using 2 containers together but wasn't sure if the chicken wire would heat up. I love these little things already! [IMG]

So I ended up getting 5 Easter Eggers! I kept them separate for the first week and added them together with no problems! [IMG]
